Tasmania Accommodation Guide

Looking for an exciting, unusual vacation destination?  Plan on spending your next vacation in Tasmania. Known as the "island of inspiration", Tasmania is located south of the eastern side of Australia. It is approximately the size of the state of West Virginia and can be crossed in  two or three days. The island is full of natural wonders and diverse landscapes.

Hobart, the largest city and capital of Tasmania, is situated along the southern coast of the island. The city is a combination of the past and the present. Walking through the city one can see settlers' cottages at Battery Point or dine and shop at Constitution Dock in renovated sandstone warehouses built by convicts in the 19th century. There are many other attractions in the area just a short 90 minute drive from the city. Hobart also offers some of the finest Tasmania Accommodation available in that area. Another distinctive accommodation is Somerset on the Pier.  It sits on the Elizabeth Street Pier in a renovated 1930's building. This accommodation is in walking distance of Hobart's favorite attractions and restaurants.

If you are interested in outdoor activities, the Cradle Mountain National Park in the central highlands offers hiking trails and trout fishing in Lake St. Clair. This alpine area was created by glaciers over 20,000 years ago and has become a paradise for bushwalkers. Lake St. Clair is the deepest fresh water lake in Australia and visitors can fish there for fighting brown and spotted trout. The Cosy Cabins Cradle Mountain is an excellent example of Tasmania Accommodation. Eighteen acres of private wilderness are yours to enjoy. There are four timber chalets plus the central lodge and restaurant. Browse the local shops for chocolate, cheese, and honey.  If you are looking for a unique accommodation, the Argyll Cottage near Sheffield is just what you're looking for.   The retreat is a two-storey house with two bedrooms and two baths.  Enjoy the breathtaking view and the retreat's wellness centre. Come see this spectacular wilderness area for yourself.

Another city with excellent Tasmania Accommodation is Launceston in the northeast portion of the island. Launceston sits at the confluence of the North Esk, South Esk, and Tamar Rivers. The area features boat cruises on the Tamar River and the Cataract Gorge River which is only a fifteen minute walk from downtown Launceston.  Visitors can tour the local breweries which are said to be the best in Australia and dine in local eateries that offer the finest in Tasmanian cuisine.  There are several fine establishments to choose from when looking for accommodation in Launceston. The Pomona Spa Cottages, located in the West Tamar Valley, feature three spa cottages with one or two bedrooms compete with double spas.  Stroll through the lavish gardens or take a tour of a local winery.  Possibly the most luxurious accommodation in Launceston is Peppers Seaport Hotel.  The resort-style hotel is located right on the water and has moorings designed for yachtsto tie up next to the complex. Rooms are available with either city or river views.  Peppers Seaport Hotel is conveniently located just five minutes from the centre of Launceston where visitors can enjoy shopping and fine dining.  This four star hotel has many amenities and has to be seen to be appreciated.

Finally we come to the village of Strahan in northwest Tasmania.  Numbering less than 750 residents, it is the gateway to the World Heritage Area and home to Macquarie Harbour salmon.  Visitors to Strahan can cruise the Gordon River or hike through the rain forest that surrounds the area.  Strahan may be small but it is big on Tasmania Accommodation.  Risby Cove is a waterfront accommodation in a peaceful setting.  There are eight suites and guests can cook in their own rooms or dine at the restaurant.  Be sure to visit the one hundred year old Steamship Company Workshop showcasing the work of local artists.

There are just too many superb examples of Tasmania Accommodation to mention at one time.   No matter what part of the state you plan to visit, there are many attractions to enjoy and just as many fine accommodations.
